Here's everything you need to start booking social care shifts with Florence.
If you’re a nurse, we need your 8-digit NMC PIN so we can check your registration with the NMC.
To work with us, we’ll need to collect two professional references who can confirm your care experience.
For care assistants and support workers, we accept references from:
We can accept one reference from a non-healthcare employer, as long as your healthcare reference can confirm at least six months of UK-based care experience.
For nurses, we accept references from:
For nurses, we can only accept one reference from an agency.
Important: For both nurses and care assistants, one of your references must be from your most recent UK employer.
To confirm your right to work in the UK, we’ll need to see either a copy of your British or Irish passport or a share code if you’re not a UK citizen.
You can request a share code here: https://www.gov.uk/prove-right-to-work/get-a-share-code-online
DBS (England): Before you start work with us, you’ll need to have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you had a DBS check for a different employer, but it’s not on the Update Service, we’ll apply for a new DBS on your behalf.
PVG (Scotland): To work in the care sector in Scotland, you’ll need a Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) certificate. Before you start picking up shifts with Florence, we'll need to apply for a new or updated PVG on your behalf, depending on how old your current PVG is.
We’ll reimburse the cost of applying for a new or updated DBS or PVG after your police checks have cleared and you’ve worked your first shift with Florence.
Before you begin working with Florence, we’ll need to make sure you have up-to-date training certificates that meet our compliance requirements.
Here are the certificates we need to see:
• Manual Handling
• Infection Control
• First Aid
• Fire Safety
• Florence Code of Conduct: Care Support Workers (carers only)
• Food Hygiene (carers only)
• Medication Administration Theory (nurses only)
• Medication Competency Assessment (nurses only)

• Life Support
• Equality & Diversity
• Information Governance
• Safeguarding Adults Level 1 (adult support and protection)
• Safeguarding Children
• Mental Capacity Act
• Understanding Learning Disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (all nurses and carers in England only)
If you don't already have these certificates, you can complete them for free on Florence Academy.
You’ll need at least six months of UK work experience as a carer or support worker, or one year of experience as a nurse (UK or international) to find work through Florence.
The homes that use Florence require that you explain any gaps in your employment history.
For example, a bank statement or utility bill.
